Sauna Thermometers

Traditional saunas run between 150°F and 195°F (65°C to 90°C), with most people preferring 175°F to 185°F at bench height. Steam rooms sit lower at 110°F to 120°F with high humidity. The right temperature depends on whether you want dry heat or steam.

A thermometer measures temperature, a hygrometer measures relative humidity. In a traditional sauna, both matter: the temperature tells you how hot the air is, while the humidity tells you how much steam is in the air. Our combo units show both.

Household thermometers usually fog up, drift out of calibration, or stop working entirely above 150°F. Saunas regularly reach 175°F to 195°F at bench height, well past that limit. Our Valo™ thermometers are calibrated for the 100°F to 250°F range where saunas actually operate.

Aluminum has the cleanest modern look, the fastest heat response, and the highest visual contrast through steam. Wood-framed thermometers blend naturally into cedar or spruce sauna interiors and feel more traditional. Both use the same Valo™ heat-resistant internals, so accuracy is identical.

Mount it at face height when you're seated on the upper bench, roughly 60 to 70 inches from the floor. That gives you the most accurate read of the air you're actually breathing. Keep it away from direct heater airflow, which can show a falsely high reading.

Not strictly, but it helps. Even a dry sauna's humidity rises after every ladle of water, and a hygrometer shows you when steam has dissipated and the room is ready for the next round. For pure dry heat without löyly, a thermometer alone is enough.
